[ Synopsis ]
Johnny has nearly surrendered to the sentence of a dead-end life, but Hart dreams of something else...anything else. "Fireflies" is the stirring dramatic story of two friends - Hart and Johnny - on a journey to find who they are and to escape the lives they have always known for a chance to start living.
When an altercation with his abusive step-father goes horribly wrong, Johnny must get out of town - fast. It doesn't take much to convince Hart to embark on the long overdue feat of leaving their small town behind. Their getaway drives them toward self-discovery in a world they had never imagined. The path of the unknown fuels a thirst for adventure that grows with every lonely highway and obscure back-road, but the thrill of the provoking twists and turns on their route to independence pales in comparison to what they find at their destination: a pure lust for consciousness in reality.
Along their venture the two wayfarers encounter a fellow rolling stone named Daisy, a disarming old soul whose striking beauty is matched only by her common sense. She is the essence of mother road. Despite a mysterious past of her own, Daisy breathes electrifying spirit and promise of freedom into the boys' mundane philosophies.
The three are drastically different spectrums of life, but Daisy's feminine finesse sees straight through the facades of her male counterparts. As they continue their voyage with Daisy in tow, she continually forces the two boys to face their inner demons. Hart, who is already struggling to define himself, is pushed to the edge of truth by Daisy's overt sexuality and tenacious attitude. He rejects her advances, quickly confirming her original theory - Hart is gay. Her discovery threatens to ruin their newfound harmony, and exposing this truth to Johnny could potentially destroy the boys' lifelong brotherhood. Daisy proposes the fateful theory that perhaps Johnny already knows Hart's secret. It is ultimately the decision of a lifetime. Broken and bruised, they continue their journey as Daisy's spell of manipulation and seductive eccentricity pulls on the threads of their friendship.
Friendships are tested, boundaries are crossed, lives are changed forever. "Fireflies" is the story of three people desperate to find out who they are and where they belong.
